  • Maria Pia 319 W 51st St New York, NY, 10019 United States (map)

The FFOF 6th Annual Spring Luncheon was successfully held on Saturday, March 24 at Maria Pia in Mid-town Manhattan. Over 50 alum and friends came from as far as Boston, Ithaca, Washington DC, Chicago and San Francisco. The classes represented span from 1979 to 2011.

In the fully packed Italian eatery, keynote speaker Ned Cloonan led a discussion on the Sino-US economic and diplomatic relations. Ned compared and contrasted models of economic development, enumerated opportunities and challenging faced by foreign enterprises in China, drawing rich anecdotes from his 30 year experience representing AIG at the forefront of its various global businesses. Ned was followed by some warm remarks from ex-dean of the school, Mrs. Qin Duxin, who reminisced her 26 years of joyful teaching experience at Fuzhong and thanked the Foundation for its generous contribution. Her presence was a pleasant surprise to many of her former students.

The 2011 foundation work report was delivered by Minhua Zhang, director of Fund Raising. Minhua gave a comprehensive and vivid overview of all the on-going fund deployment programs (one need-base and two merit-base scholarships, Student Resource Center and Chemistry Lab Instrument Purchase) as well as the fund-raising landscape, financial details, alumni network and social outreach projects.

The entire luncheon lasted more than 3 hours, leaving with many alumni wishing for even more social time(!). Old friends were reconnected and new friendships were found. Over $7,000 were raised with $2,000 additional pledges.
